Battery charging: 2 hoursSpecial attention is payed to the runtimes of netbooks. The manufacturer hit the mark here and gave the machine grandiose times. Even when the N450 processor is continually under load, the radio module on and the luminance on its maximum setting,Acer TravelMate 2450 Battery we still didn't get anything under four hours (261 min.) for the netbook. The practical battery life is tested best when WLAN surfing. The battery is empty after 5:52 hours. During this test, the LED panel was on a middle settling around 130 cd/m².

For these tests, a trail of the runtime during a DVD film is in order. The Lord of the Rings ended after 6:23 hours (282 min.) The DVD was played from a USB-DVD drive with its own power source. The Atom N450 only had to decode the picture signal. As this wasn't HD material, it was only burdened with around 40 percent of the duties. Acer TravelMate 2490 Battery

When all the energy saving options are turned on, the N150 gets 8:22 hours. In these 502 minutes, the netbook was turned on but the radio modules were deactivated and the brightness was on its lowest level (BatteryEater Reader Test). The Samsung N150 was certified with a TCO label. The stipulations for such a certification are a low current consumption at idle, in standby and turned off. Our mutlimeter can attest to this as it measures only 0.3 watts (standby) and 0.1 watts (off). The minimal current consumption of 8.3 watt at idle speaks to the good battery life. A processor stress test can raise the energy use up to 15.7 watts. The battery was not hooked in when measuring the current consumption. Acer TravelMate 5210 Battery

The Samsung N150 cleans up in the netbook segment in one point after the other. It does not ascend the throne, however. Worthy of mention are the stable case including the very good display hinges, the good input devices and the low noise emissions. In Silent-Mode, the fan hardly makes a peep. When it does, it is extremely quiet. The same goes for the almost inaudible 250 GB hard drive. Acer TravelMate 5510 Battery

Users will not be bothered by annoying reflections. The anti-glare WSVGA display is, however, at best only average in terms of brightness. This is actually the only real point of criticism on the Samsung N150. The brightness of the TFT is too low (195 cd/m²) for satisfactory use in the sun and this costs the N150 Eom the netbook throne. The Samsung N150 with the integrated 3G modem can be had in stores for around 360 Euro. It is thus 80 Euro more expensive than an Asus Eee PC 1005HGo (3G Modem), which does, however, build on the old netbook platform. The N150 is a good value. Buyers who are on the lookout for an (almost) uncompromised, good netbook with up-to-date technology can hardly go wrong here. The only thing that buyers can't expect is the speed of an Intel Core i3/i5 notebook. Sony's business division is currently very transparent. Whilst the models of the S, X and Z series found in the business field also are sold as consumer alternatives by Sony, the B family tested here is only found among Sony's business notebooks.Acer Farrari 4005WLMi Battery

We find many useful interfaces, like a docking port and a Trusted Platform Module, aligned for the business customer field, but have to forgo on dedicated graphics power in return. Sony's Vaio VPC-B22 notebook is currently available in two pre-configured alternatives that mainly differ in CPU, hard disk capacity and display. We have the "top model" with a Core i5-520M, a 500 GB hard disk and an AR-coated WXGA+ in review. The price is around 970.00 euro and thus well over 200.00 euro more than the smaller alternative with a Core i3-330M, 320 GB hard disk and WXGA display.Acer Ferrari 4001 Battery

Not quite perfect gapsThe entirely roughened surface in a discreet business gray pleases right away. Acer Ferrari 4002 Battery The case is a magnesium alloy. No high-gloss no matter where you look. The Vaio has a good average for the 15" category with a weight of 2.49 kg and looks slim despite its record-breaking size of 37.7(h) x 262.4(b) x 266.8(d) mm. The shell makes a solid impression and proves to be rigid almost everywhere. Merely the area above the optical drive can be pressed in a bit. Even the battery fits tight in opposition to many other past Sony models. The display can hardly be twisted and the hinges have a tight grip on the display. So tight that you can't open it single-handedly. Then again, this has the advantage that a separate display latch can be omitted without having a bad conscience.Acer Ferrari 4002WLMi Battery

We find several openings for accessing the RAM and hard disk on the bottom tray. Too bad: The hard disk cover is only fixed with one screw and wobbles. Adversely, there is a foot just on this lid, which results in a clattering noise every time the notebook is placed somewhere. A hardware switch for WLAN and Bluetooth, a mute button for the loudspeakers and a freely assignable function button (S1) are found above the keyboard's left side. We find the fingerprint reader placed unusually on the right. The loudspeaker bar is between that.Acer Ferrari 4004 Battery

The Vaio business notebook has an overall only average connectivity. 3 USB 2.0s, gigabit LAN and a HDMI out for connecting digital monitors cover most of the basic needs. Audio and video can be transmitted to the respective display via HDMI. However, the maximum resolution is limited to 1920x1080 pixels (1080p). A DisplayPort might have been a more appropriate alternative in a business device. Additional interfaces can be upgraded via the ExpressCard/34 expansion.Acer Ferrari 4005 Battery

A connection can be made to external devices wirelessly via WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n or Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Acer Ferrari 4006 Battery An HSPA modem (UMTS) is currently not available. Thus, you'll have to use external extensions, such as USB sticks or ExpressCards, to be able to stay in contact with the office on the go. Asus generally likes to give its devices hardware-buttons, which makes the activation of energy-related functions or wireless modules easier. This is not so on the U30JC, which lends the work surface a cleaner look. Even the power key is tucked away under the right display hinge. There is, in fact, a hardware button, which serves to activate both wireless modules. It is located awkwardly and almost invisible on the front left side. The switch is difficult to move and gives the impression that it was incorporated into the chassis late in the development cycle. The touch pad is located just slightly below the surface of the palm rest. Its surface has the same Alu-look as the rest of the immediate area. The model is a Multi-Touch-Pad (Elan Smart Pad V2.2; Driver ETDWare 7.0.5.9_WHOL). As far as two-finger gestures, we were only able to roll (two fingers next to each other) or zoom (two fingers coming together or moving apart). A horizontal or vertical scrollbar is missing; the activation of this function is also missing from the Smart-Pad software. The same goes for the zoom function: according to the Smart-Pad Tool, it simply doesn't exist. With a black value of 1.36 (middle) we were able to ascertain a low contrast of 166:1. A measurably higher contrast would have been easier on the eyes, though the result is something that can be coped with. Colors on the display are rather subdued as opposed to vibrant and exciting. The panel, despite the contrast, is still able to impress with a good brightness level. On average we measured 227 cd/m2. We measured a maximum light density of 237 cd/m2 in the upper right hand corner. The 13.3-inch panel lacks a matte finish, which is to say that it has a glare-type panel. Use under direct sunlight is possible, though in situations of strong sunlight a shady area should be sought out. The vertical viewing angles of the glare-display are very small. Horizontally we were able to move left and right to about 45 degrees. At this point, the display darkens noticeably and the colors falsify. Vertically the same effect begins at 20 degrees of deviance. The picture becomes dark quickly and the colors invert. Dark writing on bright backgrounds are less dependent on the viewing angle than colors and pictures. The low viewing angles hardly have major consequences for users of the notebook; watching a film with friends can be difficult when one or another is not satisfied with their viewing position. The U30JC is outfitted with an Intel Core i5-430M. The 32mm CPU has two physical cores each at 2.26 GHz (standard clock speed). The clocking when using Turbo-Boost lies between 2.26 and 2.533 GHz. A special feature of the Core i5-CPU: the integration of the memory controller and the IGP-graphics card (GMA HD) in the processor unit. This allows for an interesting connection with the dedicated Nvidia 310M graphics chipset. The so-called Nvidia Optimus technology automatically switches between the Intel HD graphics and the dedicated GPU. Different from earlier hybrid-GPU solutions, the Optimus technology does not switch back and forth continuously between the two graphics units, which always led to a change in frame buffer and interruption of the VGA-output signal.Dell Inspiron 15z Battery,charger,adapter

The Intel HD is always active, as its frame-buffer is continuously used for display output. The dedicated Nvidia GPU is therefore not physically connected to the VGA-out; instead the Geforce 310M writes the display information directly to the frame buffer of the GMA HD. The overall result of 4,057 points is surprising in a mostly negative way. Why is the system being thwarted in this manner? It is the hard drive and the weak graphics that the PCMark Vantage is rating as low. The HDD score (2,083) is about 1,000 points lower as that, for example, in the Acer Aspire 7745G-434G50Bn (430M, HD5850). Due to the slow Seagate hard drive the other scores (productivity, music, etc.) each lose a few hundred points a piece., which when brought together, affects the total score above. The gaming score (3,255) is one which would be expected from a system without a dedicated graphics card (mySN MB6, Intel HD). As a reminder: the Optimus system is deactivated during standard Office operation as is the Nvidia CUDA hardware acceleration. An Acer Aspire 5740G-434G32Mn (HD5470) achieves 4,206 points here. The keys have a distinct stroke, clear pressure point and firm stop. The keyboard's entire surface is sufficiently fitted for normal typing. A harder stroke can cause it to yield slightly. The keys have a large distance to each other and the arrow keys are separated from the others. HP 441131-001 Marks for touch-typists on the F and J keys are difficult to feel. In short: The keyboard is good and particularly the feedback while typing is very pleasant due to the clear key drop. If the keys had a conical inward curve, a "Very Good" would have been due.

The Elan Smart-Pad offers many settings for customization, as usual. For example, users who prefer using a one-finger scroll bar at the edge can simply enable it. Users who can't get enough of multi-finger gestures can also enable three-finger swiping. Thus, the user can quickly go back to the desktop from any Windows application or switch among Windows.HP HSTNN-OB37

The Elan pad's surface is sensitive up to the edges and pleasantly matt, but not smooth. The pad keys work almost noiselessly, but have a too short key drop. The latter lessens the operating feedback in contrast to the clear key drop of the keyboard.HP HSTNN-OB38

The 11.6 inch screen from Samsung (model LTN116AT01) has a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. This high resolution has become standard in 11.6 inch devices - much to the user's delight. In opposition to the obsolete 10 inch netbook resolution of 1024x600 pixels, it improves the desktop's manageability. HP HSTNN-UB37

The TN screen's contrast of 143:1 is very low but not surprising in this low-priced device category. However, the really important criterion for the Samsung 305U1A's mobile use is its brightness – which is impressive. The matt screen has an average brightness of 241 cd/m2, which is even brighter than the majority of office laptops. Important for outdoor use: The brightness isn't reduced on Charger power.HP HSTNN-XB37

The color spectrum, which we compare with AdobeRGB, sRGB and the screen in the Latitude E6520 FHD as well as the Vaio Z13 (each transparent), is very narrow. Small-sized professional screens are very scarce. Examples would be the (expensive) Vaios of the Z series (FHD & WXGA++, matt). These usually cover at least sRGB (grid in center ICC picture). However, this quality is only important for professional image editors.HP RQ203AA

ICC Samsung 305U1A vs Vaio Z13B7E HD+(t)Samsung makes the right decision and installs a matt TFT. It allows use in daylight and in the sun. The 11.6 inch screen didn't have any problems with legibility in overcast conditions, in which we took our pictures.HP F2024

Frontal view, cloudyThe Samsung 305U1A's viewing angles are viable horizontally, but very poor vertically. The colors remain true up to about 45 degrees. The viewer's eyes may only deviate 15 degrees from above or below before the picture fades vertically. We experience extremely inverted colors at a vertical deviation of 25 degrees. The viewing angle behavior described here is common for about 80% of our test devices (low and medium price range).HP F2024-80001

AMD E-450 APU with Radeon HD 6320 (IGP)Samsung equips the 11.6 inch laptop with the Bobcat APU, AMD E-450 (2x 1.65 GHz). The so-called Accelerated Processing Unit with a TDP of 18 watts has an integrated graphics unit with DirectX 11 functions and a UVD3 video decoder for HD videos (MPEG-2, H.264, VC-1). The Radeon HD 6320 beats the latest Intel HD 3000 (notebooks) with 80 shaders and a UVD3 processor. We won't even mention the GMA 3150 (Atom netbooks).HP F2024-80001A

The APU only has an L2 cache of 1024 KB. The core sits on the AMD A50M chipset and is accompanied by 4096 MB of DDR2 RAM. Samsung installs the 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium and the 64 bit APU is exploited perfectly.HP F2024A

Cinebench R11.5: CPU @1.65 GHzWe compare the AMD E-450 (2x 1.65 GHz) with the previous E-350 (2x 1.60 GHz) and with the Intel Atom dual core N550, still on the market. The Atom dual core has the Hyper Threading advantage of four computing cores. The difference to the E-350 should be low, if at all visible, in the CPU performance. Level 1 and 2 caches are identical (128, respectively 1024 KB).HP Mini 5103 Charger

The multi core benchmark, Cinebench R11.5 64bit is to show us if the lack of Hyper Threading is a disadvantage for multitasking operations. The test system achieves 0.64 points. That is equal to all previous E-350 devices: 0.6 points. We don't have a 64 bit score for the N550, so we use Cinebench R10 Multi 32bit: 2027 points for the E-450 and 1400 points for the Atom N550 (average). The E-350 again has an identical score of ~2000 points. The N550 is slower by 30% according to that.HP ProBook 4405 Charger

The processor can reduce its clock to 800 MHz in idle. The Bobcat cores don't have Turbo (only in Llano APUs), and thus 1.65 GHz is always run in medium and high load. The user can intervene by limiting the clock in the Vision Control Center.HP ProBook 4405s Charger

The synthetic computing examples don't let the AMD E-450 look better than its predecessor, E-350. But what about the combined application performance of this specific test device? The CPU weak Samsung might also convince with a fast hard disk, respectively SSD, RAM and graphics card (HD 6320). HP ProBook 4406 Charger

We use PCMark Vantage and PCMark 7, which check all the components as a whole. 2640 points, respectively 1005 points are the tight results. At least the Samsung 305U1A can stand out from the E-350 test range that only achieves 85% of the performance (2250 points). Since the MSI Wind U270 with an E-450 also only manages 2268 points, we ascribe the increased performance to the fast hard disk. The PCMark Vantage gaming score of 2202 points is only marginally higher than with an E-350 (~2000 points).HP ProBook 4406s Charger

Outside the netbook or Fusion comparisons, it remains to be said that our Samsung 305U1A is significantly weaker than, for example, a simple office device with a Core i3 2330M and integrated Intel graphics. The Asus Pro P53E manages 4810 points, respectively 1768 points (PCM Vantage, PCM 7). However, there is a contrasting picture in 3D performance; see gaming performance.HP ProBook 4410s Charger

Everyone is talking about hardware support via the graphics, which unloads the processor in general calculations via OpenCL, OpenGL or CUDA (Nvidia). The HD 6320 supports OpenCL - can we exploit this? We let our Samsung 305U1A render a video (H.264 FHD 50i) with CyberLink's Power Director 10, which takes 15:40 minutes. GPU support unfortunately isn't achieved even after installing the AMD Media Codec Pack in the latest Catalyst driver. HP ProBook 4411 Charger

It's also frustrating here that the Asus Pro P53E with an Intel HD and Core i3 standing beside it, renders the same clip in 3:27 minutes, including Intel's QuickSync Video hardware support. Apart from the poor rendering performance, working with Power Director 10 on the Fusion system is amazingly smooth.HP ProBook 4411s Charger

HDTune reads on average with 72 MB/s. Although this isn't an unusually high rate, it is in the midfield of simple 5400 rpm hard disks. CrystalDiskMark achieves 90 MB/s. This throughput is at the upper end of 5400 rpm HDDs and in the midfield of 7200 HDDs. Samsung could have used a 7200 rpm HDD, but the noise would likely have been overpoweringly loud under certain circumstances. HP ProBook 4412s Charger

The HDD scores in PCMark Vantage and PCMark 7 add a few points to the high throughputs. 3010 points (PCMV) are however still remote from the 4500 point that a speedy single 5400 rpm HDD could manage. The PCMark 7 Storage score finishes with 1456 points. This can also be seen as midfield; 7200 rpm HDDs are only 10 to 20% faster (e. g. Dell XPS 15z +15 %).HP ProBook 4413 Charger

The AMD Radeon HD 6320 (IGP) is practically the performance behemoth among the integrated graphics units of the AMD C and E series. In comparison to the HD 6310 of the E-350, the clock can now increase from formerly 500 to now 600 MHz via Turbo Core. Since the 80 shaders and the 40 nm manufacturing process hasn't changed, the measurable advantages stay within narrow limits.HP ProBook 4413s Charger

The old 3DMark 06 gathers 2411 points, which is still 15% more than the E-350 range, e. g. the ThinkPad Edge E325 (2048). However, that can't hold a candle to a HD Graphics 3000. These devices range between 2500 and 4600 points (105 to 190%). 3DMark Vantage finishes with 951 points. The E-350 devices are 15% below that in the best case. The Intel HD is again 119 to 217% faster. 3DMark 11 is newer and finishes with 338 points. The E-350 devices are only slightly below that with 82% of the score. The frequently mentioned advantage of an AMD Fusion APU is the high GPU computing performance compared to Intel's processor graphics. The comparison however only works when netbooks equipped with the Intel Atom N550/N450, available on the market, are compared. This is synonymous with the gaming performance: Our test device can at most beat these weak systems. The 3D performance is extremely low compared to "normal" notebooks - even ones with an Intel processor graphics or low voltage processor. HP ProBook 4415s Charger

We tried a range of current games and only the oldest one from 2008 (Left 4 Dead) could be played fairly smoothly (low details). A HD 3000 system, such as the Acer Aspire 3830TG-6431 (2410M) doesn't manage much more either in Civilization 5. The car racing game, F1, manages 30 fps with the Intel graphics (ultra low,HP ProBook 4416s Charger Toshiba Portégé Z830-10N, 2367M) and not only 16 fps like our test device. The same is evident in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which achieves 17 fps on the Toshiba Ultrabook. A 2410M processor graphics is required for 18 fps (Aspire 3830TG-6431). We notice the lowest difference in Anno 2070 in low details: 28 fps versus 30 with an Intel HD 3000 (@ Lenovo IdeaPad U300s, Toshiba Portégé Z830-10N). The cooling system does credit to Samsung's name. It is usually silent and isn't disturbing during load. Silent Mode (FN key) that limits the processor clock to 800 MHz is available. Of course, this reduces the performance. However, this mode is not actually necessary, since the fan is always switched off in idle during normal mode. Only the HDD's noise (barely audible, 30.6 dB (A)) or its clicking (32.6 dB (A)) is measurable here.HP ProBook 4418s Charger

Another important aspect are of course user-friendly input devices, which allow to work for a long time without problems. Regarding this aspect, the D830 has a keyboard with a clear layout and a user-friendly touch pad. Only the track point did not really convince us. Asus A31-B43 charger

The display's strengths are a matt and, therefore, non-reflecting surface and the concise WSXGA+ resolution. A weakness is the poor illumination, which is a result of the brightness declining at the top edge. Another pro of the D830 is that you can choose between a number of display version. The Latitude D830's performance is, as for the reviewed notebook, very good, because of a powerful mobile CPU (T7700), 2GB Ram and a fast 120GB hard disk. Considering it is an office notebook, hardly anything is left to be desired. Asus A32-N71 charger

Emissions of the notebook are, especially considering it is an office notebook, something which should not be neglected. In our case, the Latitude D830 met our expectations in some degree. We need to mention that the fan ran all the time, but, overall the noise level of the D830 is passable. Asus 70-NX01B1000Z chargerFinally, the D830 also scores high regarding battery runtime. Equipped with a powerful 85Wh battery the runtime is in between 2 up to impressing 9h. In practice about 4 hours should be possible.

Off-the-Shelf Notebook. The Amilo Pa 2510 is a reasonable beginner's notebook. Equipped with an AMD CPU its tries to match with the huge number of notebooks equipped with Intel CPUs. Thereby, the Amilo Pa 2510 is especially interesting, because of the new AMD M690V chip set.Asus 70-NXH1B1000Z charger Though the Amilo is equipped with an ATI X1200 video card, this video card does not have any advantages regarding performance compared to Intel's new integrated video card, the GMA X3100. Overall, the Pa2510 is worth consideration, because of its low price.

The form of the case with its rounded edges lets this notebook appear compact and looks good. Also the choice of color (black trough, silver palm rest areas, and silver display cover is alright and will supposedly be liked. Asus 70-NZY1B1000Z charger

The robustness of the case could convince too. The base unit is very flexural rigid and is also sufficiently resistant against applied forces. Although there are sometimes low creaking noises when handling the notebook and the bottom side partly somewhat yields under pressure, the positive impression persists. Asus 70-NZYB1000Z charger

The middle of the display cover yields under pressure a little too much, so, that you'll also recognize changes of the displayed picture. At the first glance the display hinges appear to be sufficiently robust, however, there is a clear see-saw after adjusting the display's position.Asus A41-U36 charger Furthermore, the left hinge is only attached at one side and does not have a bolt which goes through. The display's ramshorn hook works well and locks the display absolutely tight in closed position.

The Amilo Pa 2510 provides you only with absolutely necessary ports. There are 3 USB ports, a modem port, and a LAN port, a VGA port, and audio ports with S/PDIF (optical out), which are not totally ideal located at the front edge. Furthermore, the Amilo provides an ExpressCard slot and a 4in1 Cardreader at the right side.Asus A42-U36 charger

The keys of the keyboard are adequately big and user-friendly. Only the space bar's left side is a little short, because the [< >] key was somewhat unusual placed there. The layout of the keyboard was strictly restricted to a rectangular area, where the keys are placed side by side. Only the cursor block was located a little more to the front. Asus A32-K53 chargerTyping is soft, accompanied by a clicking noise. Furthermore, the keyboard is attached tightly to the case, so, it does not clatter during typing.

The Amilo Pa2510's touch pad is small, but wide and user-friendly. One needs to adapt to its buttons first, because you'll need to apply some force to press them, and there clicking noise is rather loud.Color DiagramThe Amilio comes with a nowadays liked display format, a 1280x800 WXGA panel with reflecting surface. The measured maximum brightness was measured in the center of the display and amounted to 158.5 cd/m², which is a passable result. The illumination is somewhat below-average at 77.2%, because the brightness diminishes at the corners. The average brightness of this WXGA panel was 136.6 cd/m².Asus A32-K53 charger

The black value, i.e., the minimum representable brightness of the display amounted to 0.6 cd/m².Asus A42-K53 charger Together with the maximum brightness of 158.5 cd/m² this gives a maximum possible contrast of acceptable 264:1. We could not observe any anomalies regarding the display's speed of reaction. Horizontally, the stability to the vantage point is rather good, but, limited by proliferating reflections as the angles get acuter. Vertically, the colors heavily change and the contrast diminishes outside a sufficiently big area of operation.Asus A32-K93 charger

The Amilo is equipped with the new AMD M690V/SB600 chip set, which is already fit for new AMD processors. Nevertheless, the notebook is only equipped with the already known Turion 64 X2 TL-50 processor with 1.6 Ghz. Asus A42-K93 charger

An ATI Radeon XPress X1200 video card is responsible for graphics. With up to 256MB shared memory it's similarly powerful than Intel's up-to-date integrated video chip, the X3100. Contrary to statements by FSC, this video card has also 128MB dedicated memory. Asus A32-U46 charger

Games without high demands on 3D can be played with limitations, however, this is not really fun. Still, the Amilo Pa1510 seems to be sufficient for moderate office and internet applications, not least, because it is also equipped with a total of 2GB main memory and an 120GB hard disk with 5400 revs. Asus A41-U46 charger

In idle mode the fan starts running periodically and is very clearly audible, while it runs for some seconds. Thereby, the frequency of the noise is unpleasant. Also limiting the performance of the CPU by the hot key right above the keyboard labeled with a fan or by choosing another performance profile improved the noise only for a short time. Although the fan is stopped immediately after pressing the hot key, it continues to run periodically after a few seconds. Asus A32-NX90 charger

The sound of the two speakers, placed right and left beside the keyboard, is alright with a good maximum volume. A maximum of 165 minutes, i.e., 2.5h, or about 2 hours runtime when utilizing WLAN at optimized energy saving settings, are not delighting.

Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa2510Considering the reasonable price, the Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa2510 is overall an interesting notebook. Although you can't expect a great deal of it, it's overall alright.Asus LC42SD128 chargerThe case is sufficiently stable and a base eqipment of interfaces is provided. The keyboard is also alright for office work and internet applications, and also the touch pad is rather user-friendly, although its buttons are somewhat sluggish and loud. The display's measured brightness is acceptable with slight weaknesses regarding illumination. Furthermore, its surface is reflecting.

The Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo's performance is with an AMD CPU and ATI video card rather passable, and provides sufficient reserve capacities for office and internet applicazions. Especially 2 GB main memory contribute to the Amilo's performance. Asus A32-N61 charger

The noise emissions are generally alright, still the fan annoys by running unsteadily. The surface temperatures of the notebook are partly clearly too high. At last, the Amilo Pa2510's maximum battery runtime is only slightly above 2 hours, so a mobile use is rather limited. Asus A32-X64 charger

The Lenovo IBM Thinkpad X61T is a compact mobile notebook with tablet functions. It's light magnesium case and the good battery runtime qualifies it for students, who need to browse the Internet, take notes, and copy pictures by using the pen. Furthermore, it is also not fit for up-to-date games, because of an integrated video solution and a processor with low-energy demands. Colors popped, and we could even make out the reflection of buildings on the front of the bikes. Indoors, the Titan fell flat, producing grainy and dim images when we didn't engage the flash. While playback was smooth on our desktop, the picture wasn't very detailed.The front-facing camera on the Titan works with the Tango app for video calls, but we wouldn't recommend using it. The Belkin Keyboard Folio is made of a gray suede-like material that's comfortable to hold, but it doesn't feel as protective as hard plastic cases such as the ZaggFolio and the Targus Versavu. We also didn't find the Belkin case as attractive as the Kensington KeyFolio.Dell 312-0882

Opening the Belkin Keyboard Folio is a bit like playing with a Jacob's Ladder.Dell 312-0935 This case can fold in so many ways that it's not immediately clear how it works. However, this complexity ends up being a good thing. When open, the flap covering the screen of the iPad flips to the bottom, providing a base that lets you adjust the angle of your iPad to suit your needs. Better yet, this design keeps the iPad in a secure position, so we didn't worry about it falling out if it was at too great an angle.Dell T5443

Belkin's keyboard presents very few compromises. The island-style keys were large and well spaced.Dell W5543 Not only was the right Shift key full-sized, but the arrow buttons beneath (which are usually squeezed into the layout) had plenty of space, too. Belkin rates the Keyboard Folio for up to 60 hours of battery life, which is less than the Kensington and ClamCase. Like with the Targus Versavu, though, this caused the iPad to sit at an angle that was too vertical, and was not secure if we angled our legs downward. We had a very good typing experience on the Keyfolio Pro, reaching 58 words per minute with a 98-percent accuracy rate on the TapTyping test app, the same score we got on the ZaggFolio and slightly better than our rate on the Targus Versavu. The island-style keys were plenty large, and have a nice gritty surface, to boot. However, we reached an even higher 62 wpm and a 99-percent accuracy rate on the Belkin Keyboard Folio.Dell H9566

The arrow keys have been squashed into the space below the Enter key and next to the Shift key, both of which are tiny. This results in frequent typos. The number block in the standard layout makes it easier to enter figures. According to the MSI website it should be possible to type quietly, but that was not our experience. The Synaptics V6.2 touchpad is part of the palm rest, and is completely integrated into it. It sits in a depression which does not have a finish on it. HP EX940AAThe cursor can be controlled accurately using the slightly slippy pad. It is not a multi-touch pad and so two-finger zoom and other multi-touch gestures are not supported. But zooming or scrolling using the horizontal and vertical scrollbars does work. As we saw on the closely related CX620MX model, the touchpad buttons give very poor feedback. They don’t depress very far and you have to use too much force to get them to move. However they do click almost inaudibly.HP EX941AA

MSI has fitted its budget office notebook with a bog-standard screen (Samsung 156AT05-H01, SEC3651). HP HSTNN-C17CThe native resolution of 1,366 x 768 gives an aspect ratio of 16:9. We were not surprised either by the glossy screen type. It is the same screen with the same poor contrast ratio (164:1) as was used in the CX620MX model. The glossy finish improves the appearance of colours somewhat, but you can still see that black areas have a light greyish tinge to them. HP HSTNN-DB31

As expected, the screen’s colour space does not cover the whole of Adobe RGB or sRGB, which puts it on the same level as other low-cost office or multimedia notebooks. The laptop’s colour space comes off badly when compared to an extended colour space such as that of the HP Envy 14.HP HSTNN-DB32

The LED display has a relatively even distribution off brightness across its surface (86%). In the centre, our Mavo Monitor measured a maximum value of 230 cd/m². As the brightness sinks as low as 199 cd/m² in the bottom left, the average reading is 222 cd/m². This level of brightness is above-average but still not very good (250 cd/m² and upwards is good).HP HSTNN-IB31

The CR620 is not very suitable for outdoor use. The glossy screen produces reflections and the brightness, while fairly good, is not good enough to compete with sunlight. Your view will be compromised to a lesser or greater extent depending on the amount of light falling on it. But you can work outside successfully by changing the angle of the lid and finding a shady spot. The outdoor photos below were taken in sunlight with a small amount of cloud.HP HSTNN-IB32

Front - indirect sunLike most notebooks, the CR620 has very limited viewing angles. Horizontally you can deviate by about 45 degrees before hitting trouble. Beyond that, the colours fade. The same thing happens vertically; you can move by a maximum of 15 degrees. The Core i3-350M (2.26 GHz) is not used as often as the smallest Intel-Core i3-330M with a slightly slower speed of 2.13 GHz. Does this give the customer better performance?HP HSTNN-IB42

All Intel Core i CPUs have hyperthreading (HT). HT gives you an additional virtual core for each physical core. So the dual-core processor can actually operate with four threads. The overall application performance and the operating system benefit particularly from hyperthreading. We installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit for the purposes of our testing.HP HSTNN-LB31

The dual-core processor has 3 MB of L2 cache (Intel Smart Cache). HP HSTNN-LB42Along with this it has only 2 GB of DDR3 SDRAM. This sits in one module and can be upgraded a little using the free RAM slot.Core i3-350M (2.26 GHz)The Core i3-350M (2.26 GHz) is weaker than the i5-520M and i5-430M models but marginally faster than the i3-330M (2.13 GHz). The processor benchmark Cinebench R11.5 (64 Bit) gives 520M processors around 2.2 points, with 430M processors getting 2.0 points and 330M processors 1.75. The i3-350M used here is measurably better than the 330M with 1.87 points, but only just.HP HSTNN-OB31

Without Turbo Boost, the i3-350M loses out to the i5-430M in single-core calculations, despite its identical standard speed (standard 2.26 GHz, Turbo 2.53 GHz). The i5-430M can achieve up to 3,362 points in the Cinebench R10 Single Core 64 Bit test (Sony Vaio VPC-EB1S1E/BJ). The 350M in the CR620 manages 3,070 points. Compared to modern AMD processors the i3-350M cuts a very good figure. The CR620 does not have anything to be ashamed of in this regard. During web surfing and writing emails, the fan runs constantly but only reaches a volume of 33.8 dB(A). In idle it manages to reduce to 32.6 dB(A) now and again, but this only lasts for 10 seconds at a time. After that it returns slowly to the normal level. During the CPU benchmarks the fan can get up to 37.1 dB(A). The maximum noise level of 40.8 dB(A), which we could only provoke with the stress test, should not concern normal users. The MSI CR620’s surfaces do not get too hot at any time. Certainly not in idle, when the temperature on the topside did not even exceed 26 degrees. Under heavy use, the temperatures do rise sharply but do not reach dangerous levels. After two hours of the Furmark and Prime95 stress test, the topside reaches 36 degrees at its warmest; thanks to the cool areas on the right, the average is only 31 degrees. The underside reaches 45 degrees in places, but because of the cool areas surrounding it the average comes in at 30.5 degrees. Office notebooks seldom belong to the musical elite. But their stereo speakers should be suitable for DVD films, YouTube clips or web radio streaming. Unfortunately users of the CR620 will not be overly pleased with the quality and will quickly turn to headphones or external speakers. The sound is too heavy on the mid-tones and seems oddly muffled, as if the laptop were smothered in a duvet. The MSI CX620MX, identical in construction, suffers from the same poor sound quality. One reason for the muffled sound could be the base plate which half covers the membrane of one of the loudspeakers. See our photos to the right of the page. The screen is a paragon in terms of viewing angle stability and color spectrum (sRGB). However, the brightness of 218 cd/m2 could be a bit higher. The scope of interfaces (ExpressCard34, FireWire, DisplayPort, screwed on VGA) and the expansion options (docking, MultiBay drive) are very large (typical feature). The life of good eight hours is an extremely long runtime for a 17 inch device (WLAN test under MacOS). Dennoch sind die Ausmaße mit 126 x 84 x 20 mm recht kompakt und sollten im mobilen Betrieb nicht allzu dick auftragen. Etwas üppiger ist mit 310 g selbst für eine 1 TB Festplatte das Gewicht. Doch gerade das Gehäuse ist bei der Western Digital Studio trotz des relativ hohen Gewichts ein echtes Highlight. Die schnellste Schnittstelle am Mac ist zwar grundsätzlich Thunderbolt, doch hinsichtlich verfügbarer Peripherie sieht es in diesem Bereich noch recht bescheiden aus. Lediglich hochpreisige RAID-Systeme, Speziallösungen oder das Apple Thunderbolt Display sind derzeit erhältlich. Folglich findet man auch an unserem Testmodell immer noch FireWire 800 als Schnittstelle, Akku HP 540 um eine zügige Datenübertragung zu gewährleisten. Hinsichtlich der Stromversorgung braucht man sich bei FireWire 400/800 eigentlich keine Sorgen zu machen,Akku HP EliteBook 2530p deckt die Spezifikation mit 8-33 V bei 1,5 A doch genügend Möglichkeiten ab, um externe Festplatten oder sonstige Peripherie versorgen zu können. So funktionierte die Festplatte zwar per USB 2.0 am ThinkPad X220, aber nicht per FireWire über eine ExpressCard-Erweiterung. Die gleiche Leistungseinbuße wie am Mac müssen wir auch unter Windows 7 feststellen, Akku HP Pavilion tx1000 wenn man FireWire 800 nutzt. Mit 54,6 MB/s (Lesen) und 43,7 MB/s (Schreiben) sind auch hier etwa 10 MB/s weniger möglich, als bei der bisher getesteten Konkurrenz. Ohne Auffälligkeiten zeigt sich auch unter Windows wieder die USB-Schnittstelle, die mit 31 MB/s (Lesen) und 29,8 MB/s (Schreiben) ganz normale Resultate abliefert. Even the HP logo incorporated in the lid fits to the design. The logo lights up during use. The lid feels nice and is also more resistant against fingerprints than high-gloss surfaces. However, it isn't completely immune against fingerprints.Asus G70SG-7T011C We are greeted by large aluminum surfaces on the notebook's insides. The wrist-rest and bezel around the keyboard are both made of a large piece of aluminum that has been given a similar line pattern as the lid. Alike the display lid, the aluminum here also makes a good and high-end impression. Because the aluminum in the wrist-rest area has the line pattern, the susceptibility has been reduced once more - which is very reasonable in this area.Asus G70sg-a1

The aluminum surface's front part scores well in our selective pressure tests and doesn't yield at all under pressure.Asus G70Sg-A2 However, the further you move towards the rear, the more sensitive the surface reacts to our pressure tests.Asus G70sg-a3 The aluminum yields more clearly immediately in front of the display, but remains within an acceptable range. The Pavilion dv6's display is almost resistant against selective pressure. Color deviations or image distortions couldn't be established. The display doesn't do quite as well in terms of torsional stiffness, though. Slight pressure is already enough to twist the display. However, image mistakes don't turn up during this.
The notebook's hinges could have been pulled a bit tighter. For example, when you're sitting in a vehicle or tram, it can happen that the vibrations shake the display into another position.ASUS A2

The notebook is still light enough to be carried everywhere with its size of 378x245x36 millimeters and a weight of 2.5 kilograms. Even a longer transport in a comfortable notebook case isn't a problem. In this case, the adapter of 350 grams is hardly noticed. ASUS M2

With assistance from HP's SimplePass software, you can store your fingerprint in the system and use it for password inputting. First, the needed fingerprints have to be scanned. A further highlight of the keyboard is the installed key backlight. Not only the keys' outline is illuminated, but the lettering as well. The keyboard's typing feel is very convincing. The touchpad has turned out very big with a diagonal of 121 millimeters. HP has accomplished this by incorporating the keys in the touchpad so that they don't need extra room. Mit einer Diagonalen von etwas mehr als 7 cm ist die Fläche zwar nicht groß, aber ausreichend. Das Touchpad versteht allerdings keine Mehrfingergesten, arbeitet ansonsten aber sehr präzise. Die Gleiteigenschaft ist, wie beim Vorgänger schon, sehr gut. Die dazugehörigen Tasten leisten ebenso einen guten Dienst. Die Helligkeit der LED-Hintergrundsbeleuchtung haben wir, Akku Acer BT.00803.015 wie gewohnt, mit dem Gossen Mavo Monitor gemessen. Die Resultate von Fujitsus Lifebook T901 waren akzeptabel: Im Durchschnitt schaffte das Panel eine Luminanz von 203.1 cd/m². Der maximal gemessene Wert lag bei ordentlichen 223 cd/m². Die Helligkeit nimmt im Akku-Betrieb zumindest in der Mitte des Displays nicht ab. Die Ausleuchtung ist mit 84 Prozent relativ ausgeglichen. Für den Außenbetrieb sind diese Werte zwar nicht gut, aber sie reichen aus. Für den Innenbetrieb ist Fujitsus Lifebook T901 auf jeden Fall hell genug. Der gemessene Schwarzwert ist mit 0,23 cd/m² sehr niedrig, woraus sich ein sehr guter Kontrast von maximal 865:1 ergibt.Akku Acer LC.BTP01.017

Überzeugen kann das Display nicht nur mit seinem hohen Kontrast, sondern auch mit einer hervorragender Blickwinkelstabilität. Die meisten Notebook-Displays scheitern bei der vertikalen Verstellung des Displays. Doch selbst hier verfälscht sich das Bild beim Fujitsu Lifebook T901 nur minimal. Die Fotomontage veranschaulicht dies sehr deutlich. Das Notebook wurde für die Montage aus verschiedenen Perspektiven bei gleicher Blendeneinstellung und selber Verschlusszeit fotografiert. Akku Acer AS09D70 Mit Hilfe von Cinebench R10 sowie Cinebench R11.5 haben wir die CPU-Performance vom Fujitsu Lifebook T901 analysiert. Dabei erreichte das Modell unter Cinebench R10 5367 Punkte (Single Core 64 Bit) und reiht sich somit weit vorne in unserer Benchmark-Datenbank ein. Dabei liegt die Leistung im Vergleich zu anderen Notebooks auch im erwarteten Bereich. Bestes Notebook mit der selben CPU ist Fujitsus LifeBook S751 (vPro/SSD/UMTS) mit 5479 Punkten. Sobald es an die Berechnung mit mehreren Kernen geht,Akku Acer AS09F34 fällt Fujitsus Lifebook T901 sowohl unter Cinebench R11 (Multi Core 64 Bit) als auch unter Cinebench R11 (64 Bit) im Vergleich zu anderen Notebooks mit Intels Core i7 2620M Prozessor weit zurück. Bei unseren Tests wechselt der CPU-Takt zwischen Turbo Boost mit 3.2 GHz und Throtteling mit einem Takt von 2.2 GHz, womit die schwachen Multicore-Benchmarks auch erklärt werden können. Die Leistung nimmt im Akkubetrieb nicht ab. Unter Cinebench erzielte das Convertible gleiche Ergebnisse wie im Betrieb mit Netzteil.Akku Acer LC.BTP00.052

Akku Acer Aspire 3100 Große 3D-Leistungen sind von der Intel HD Graphics 3000 nicht zu erwarten. Analysiert haben wir diese anhand der 3DMark-Reihe von Futurmark. Hier schaffte das Convertible mit 3180 unter 3DMark 06 die erwartete Leistung. Fujitsus Lifebook S761 ist bei gleicher CPU und GPU mit 3399 Punkten stärker. Unter 3DMark Vantage ergibt sich mit 1551 Punkten eine ähnliche Konstellation. Für Spiele ist das Convertible nicht ausgelegt. Dafür ist die in der CPU integrierte Intel HD Graphics 3000 schlicht zu schwach.Akku Acer Aspire 3102

128 GByte beträgt die Kapazität der eingebauten Solid-State-Drive (SSD). Akku Acer Aspire 3102NWLMi Diese kommt aus dem Hause Toshiba mit der Produktbezeichnung THNSFC128GBSJ. SSDs bieten gegenüber HDDs eine höhere Performance, sind dafür aber teurer und bislang nur mit geringer Kapazität erhältlich. Die Ergebnisse unter CrystalDiskMark sowie AS SSD können sich sehen lassen. Es geht allerdings auch besser: Während unser Testgerät beim 4k Read-Test unter CrystalDiskMark 17,3 MB/s schafft, übertrifft OCZs Agility 3 (240GB) das Ergebniss mit 28.6 MB/s deutlich. Wem die Speicherkapazität nicht genügt, kann sich entweder eine externe Festplatte anschaffen oder den modularen Schacht für eine zweite Festplatte nutzen.Akku Acer Aspire 3102WLMi

Unter geringer Last verhält sich Fujitsus Lifebook T901 relativ ruhig.Akku Acer Aspire 3103 Die Lautstärke des Testgeräts schwankt zwischen 29.6 dB(A) und 34.6 dB(A). Der Lüfter wurde dabei nur selten aktiv. Im Office-Betrieb kann man also auf keinen Fall von störenden Geräuschen sprechen. Die eingebaute SSD gibt keine messbaren Geräusche von sich. Bei der Wiedergabe einer DVD wird das Convertible nur geringfügig (1,7 dB(A)) lauter. Der Film-Genuss wird also auch nicht von den Geräuschen beeinträchtigt. Unter Last haben wir maximal einen Wert von 39.1 dB(A) notiert. Dieser Pegel ist zwar schon deutlich hörbar, muss aber auch nicht als störend bezeichnet werden. Akku Acer Aspire 3104

Unter geringer Last erwärmt sich das Testgerät bei unseren Tests kaum.Akku Acer Aspire 3104WLMiB120 Dabei haben wir maximal 31.8 Grad Celsius auf der Oberseite sowie 33.6 Grad Celsius auf der Unterseite gemessen. Einschränkungen bei der Nutzung sollte es im Idle-Betrieb folglich nicht geben. Mit Prime95 sowie Furmark haben wir das System für einige Stunden an seine Leistungsgrenzen gebracht. Bei diesem Test hat das Vorgänger-Modell Fujitsus Lifebook T900 versagt. Umso überraschter waren wir mit unseren Messung bei der Neuauflage. Hier erreichte das Testgerät auf der Oberseite nur maximal 34.1 Grad Celsius, der Schnitt lag bei geringen 28.8 Grad Celsius. Die Unterseite war im Durchschnitt ebenfalls mit einem Wert von 28 Grad Celsius kühl. Eine deutlich positive Entwicklung. Der Schoßnutzung steht also selbst unter Vollast nichts im Wege.
